As many of you already know, I went to New York a couple weeks to perform with Matt Cusson and Chris Cauley. Well... something else great came from that journey. I ended up in the studio with my long time acquaintance and one of my favorite producers ever... !LLMIND!!! We both used too be apart of the Producer Board on ughh.com when it was popular back in the early 2000's. Those were the days when MPhazes, Nicolay, 9th Wonder, SlopFunkDust, and Tone.E.See. There were a lot of now "known" producers on there back them. Great times!!! It was great to finally illmind after more than 10 years of talking back and forth online. Some kind of way, him and my good friend Cello "Tha Black Pearl" got connected, so when I told Cello I was coming to New York, I told him to hit !LL up and invite him to the studio in Jersey but not to tell him I was coming. I was in the studio kicking it with Commissioner Gordon (Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse) and !LLMIND came walking in the door. The look on his face was priceless. It said, "Oh my God...it's you!!". We talked a bit from there, then him, Cello and I shared a bit of our catalogs with each other. There was some really great music being played. !llmind played some music from his band "Smokey Robotic" and it's amazing material. Check them out!!
I was supposed to being leaving to do a session at The Engine Room back in the studio but things weren't working out for me getting there. My manager was in meetings and I was just there enjoying the music and the energy. ill asked me to stay to create some music with him and that's exactly what I did. We bounced ideas back and forth and came up with a joint that was FIRE!! We didn't finish it that night, but we will someday. It was getting late and we were all getting tired so we decied to stop working and just listen to some music. We all played more of our music and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a great night of music, creating, great energy and most important, honest feedback on each other's music.
Before we left the studio, !llMIND asked me to participate in his B.L.A.P. Producer Showcase. I'd always heard great things about the showcase, so I immediately said yes. It'll be a sounding board of sorts from a crowd of people in a club atmosphere. It's going to be interesting to see what people think of my music. It's a huge networking event, so there will be all kinds of A&R's, label executives, singers, rappers, and general music loves in the building. I plan on it being a great night!!
With all that said... that is how I came to finally meet... !LLMIND!!!
