Just dropping in to share my thoughts at the moment...
Musicians (and artists in general)... we often get calls to perform and do shows or play on people's albums for very little to no money, or for free and are often insulted that we get these types of calls. I'm just here to say that there's nothing wrong with doing a show for free every once in awhile.
I, like all of you, have bills and lives to maintain, but realize and remember this... some benefits are NOT monetary. Now of course, I'm not saying don't mind your pockets. Be wise about the decision to do something for free, but I think more of us should be open to it.
I've done plenty of things for free or little to nothing just because I love what I do and to see the smile on people's faces. We often HEAL people (I'll tell one of those stories later), and for me, that's PRICELESS.
